Yogi Mani was the Acharya (one who teaches and practices) of sad guru Yogasram. He was born in 1942 in a farmer’s family and lead a very normal life during his child hood. He learned yoga and pranyama during his school days itself. Though Guru Mani started his socially committed activities in his 18 years (1960s), the asram was established only in1971. He was leading a saint like yogic life by gaining the Spiritual enlightenment. He was known among the public as Maniyettan (Ettan= Elder Brother)
Maniyettan’s spiritual Guru was Shri. Narayanan, alias Thadhathan. In his Ashramam called Thapovarishtashram, Maniyettan had conducted regular Yoga classes as well as spiritual discourses free of cost. Eventually, on the banks of the sacred river Shokanashini in Chittur, he thatched his own little humble kuteer and lived there. After a cold bath in the river, he sat on a rock amidst the river for meditation, and he practiced and taught Yoga and meditation to others as well.

The Jeevasamadhi of Guru Maniswami
Transcending Consciousness
The Yogi, by all means, can transcend their own awareness into a complete state of eternal consciousness, even while alive. Such Yogis can easily withdraw all their senses whenever they desire and delight in the state of ultimate harmony between the principles of Jeevathma (the individual’s soul) and Paramathma (the Eternal Soul). Remaining in this harmonious state, a Yogi’s subtle body and etheric energy commune with eternal consciousness, a state known as Samadhi . At this stage, birth and death become irrelevant, as physical consciousness is transcended. Even if a Yogi’s life force liberates from their body at this point, it is not considered death, but rather Samadhi , as they have already merged into Universal Consciousness.
Jeevasamadhi: The ultimate state
If a Yogi enters a state of Samadhi on a predetermined date and time and chooses to remain in that state forever, it is known as Jeevasamadhi. Guru Maniswami embodied the ultimate example of Jeevasamadhi, leaving behind a profound legacy of spiritual excellence. He predicted the time and occurrence of his own Samadhi well in advance. During his regular Sunday SATSANGAS (classes on good virtues), Guru Maniswami provided in-depth descriptions of the state and stages of samadhi and how to achieve it.
Guru Maniswami's Journey
On the night of November 5, 2022, Guru Maniswami communicated telepathically with his disciples about his impending Jeevasamadhi. The next dawn, he informed his partner Mrs. Girija, that he would enter Samadhi exactly five days later. The disciples who visited Guru Maniswami in the following days received his blessings and guidance on worldly matters. He gave them specific instructions to understand his Jeevasamadhi and the procedures to be completed immediately. On November 9, the day before his Jeevasamadhi, Guru Maniswami immersed himself in deep meditation, withdrawing all his senses. His disciples were fortunate to witness the embodiment of Samadhi in their guru.
On Thursday, November 10, Guru Maniswami prepared to enter Jeevasamadhi after completing his morning duties and cleansing his body. He sat steadfastly, withdrew all his senses, and started Prana Sadhana (the Yogic way to enlightenment) exactly at 5:15 am. He entered into Jeevasamadhi at 12:15 pm, as predicted, after seven hours of unwavering Prana Sadhana. It was a profound experience for the disciples who practiced Prana Sadhana alongside Guru during that time. Later, Guru Maniswami sitting in meditation posture was kept for darshan to the public.
Darsan and Legacy
Thousands of people came to visit him during the 24 hours of continuous darshan, marveling at his childlike body, which remained untouched by even an ant. After this, his disciples seated him in Padmasana (Lotus Posture) within the sacred tomb built by himself, allowing him to remain in the undisturbed state of Samadhi forever. The subtle presence and blessings of our Guru can still be experienced by those who knew him as their guru. Daily, numerous devotees visit Guru Maniswami’s Samadhi, recalling his profound words: ‘ I can help you manifest your desires once I transitioned into a subtle form.’ His legacy lives on, inspiring seekers to tap into the power of their own consciousness. The Samadhi of Guru Maniswami at Sadguru Yogasramam in Kerala has evolved into a revered sanctuary, where the subtle presence of the Guru perpetuates his guidance and blessings for those seeking wisdom and spiritual growth.
